Come to the Red Room on Tuesday for a debut performance of Yizhen Lyu / Thomas Gao duo’s ambient electronic music made by tinfoil lotus flower, custom software processors, and synthetic noise. Corey Thuro will perform on his electric mandolin along side Max Gong‘s wailing and moving around. Jason Charney will perform a solo set possibly with his large scale modular setup!

Born in China and based in Baltimore, Yizhen Lyu is a composer and sound artist whose work spans instrumental composition, electronic music, and sound art. Her practice explores the interplay between sound, space, movement, and spirituality. Blending Eastern aesthetics with contemporary sonic expression, Lyu creates immersive experiences that balance structural clarity with emotional depth.


Thomas Gao is a composer, sound designer, and interdisciplinary artist who makes music with Eurorack and analog synthesizers. His music explores the possibilities between East Asian culture, nature, and soundscapes. He uses the Daoist philosophy of ‘wu wei’—a dynamic balance between stillness and motion—to build deep listening experiences.

Jason Charney is a composer, media artist, and audio engineer based in Baltimore. He writes and performs music for instruments and electronics and designs performance and gallery spaces using sound, light, and computer code. As a collaborator and freelancer across disciplines, recent projects include projection design for public art showcasing local filmmakers, mobile game development for interactive chamber music, and technical direction for an outdoor multimedia opera.

Jason teaches sound design and computer music at MICA and Peabody and serves as the Technical Director for 2640 Space and Mind on Fire. He also performs on guitar and electronics with the trios Moth Broth and The Arm.

Max Gong is a composer, improviser, instrumentalist, pianist, and noise musician. He plays all kinds of stuff and performs locally in Baltimore. He goes about his life looking for himself, is afraid of repetitions, and prefers the simplest setups. He is also a member of the Peabody Improvisers Collective and the HighZero Collective.

Corey Thuro is an aspiring polymath living in Baltimore, MD. he is interested in elevated states and a few niche subsets of presently forbidden inferences.
