Says Tom of the project:
“the ‘witching hour of the wheezing lute’ is best enjoyed as a liminal or transitional part of your late night routine with technology. The best scenarios for watching or listening could be sitting in the dark while sipping liquor or eating ice cream, or perhaps while driving, or even better while giving a romantic companion a foot rub. these hour-duration improvisations are exercises, exploring my mental state while playing my analog synthesizer – the wheezing lute. I am seeking distinct inspiration from broadcasting while alone in the middle of the night. For me this will be ritualized behavior, but the listener needn’t place any formality around me peering out of a window on their phone or computer and making abstract sound. instead, imagine it is a video call and i’m explaining to you how I felt while standing in the burial chamber of the Great Pyramid at Giza
If viewers choose to use headphones the performance is nearly airless. It is exciting to imagine a concert being almost entirely electronic, vibrating air only in the few centimeters of space between the headphone driver and the ear drum. The fact that all who choose to listen will hear at different measures of internet lag combined with the internalizing headphone bubbles only reinforces the subjectivity of music.”
