sounds from
anna rg / zach rowden duo
ANNA is trying to find places in between traditional and experimental music worlds. now in brooklyn, once in baltimore, and before in appalachia / she spent the last decade studying with masters of traditional fiddle and banjo music in Kentucky and Virginia. her main duo, anna & elizabeth, just released their third studio record on smithsonian folkways / it was heralded by the New Yorker as “a radical expansion of what folk songs are supposed to do.” ZACH deals with the acoustic and performative possibilities of the upright/electric bass & violin. Current projects/collaborators include Iancu Dumitrescu and the late Ana-Maria Avram’s Hyperion Ensemble (member/soloist), The Ghost (with Michael Foster, Derek Baron) Tongue Depressor (with Henry Bridsey), Charmaine Lee, Tyshawn Sorey, Robert Black, Leila Bordreuil, Paul Flaherty, Chris Cretella, Matt Sargent, and Wendy Eisenberg.
