Boston fought valiantly against Baltimore on the Royal Rumble Kickoff, but the hobbled former Raw Women’s Champion was ultimately unable to withstand the juggernaut’s brutal onslaught. At Royal Rumble 2017, LEXIE MOUNTAIN rode a wave of emotion to her Raw Women’s Title showdown with ANGELA SAWYER, but was it enough to snap The Queen’s pay-per-view streak? Friday night at the Red Room IT’S PAYBACK TIME as Boston power trio ANGELA SAWYER (High Zero ’12), MICHAEL ROSENSTEIN and JESSE COLLINS takes on Baltimore’s unholy trinity LEXIE MOUNTAIN, OWEN GARDNER and JAKE FREEMAN in a no-holds-barred, over-the-top-rope contest to determine the No. 1 contender to the world title at WrestleMania.
Boston’s experimental music scene has been quieter the last few years, so this trio twists some deep local roots together for the first time. They create large, slow moving planes of sound that dip and bounce off one another like a wildly oversized game of Pong. Angela Sawyer has been selling vinyl around town for 25+ years, and ran Weirdo Records for about 10 of those. She’s issued albums of vocals and electronics on Ultra Eczema, Feeding Tube, her own label, and lots more. Michael Rosenstein was a jazz critic for 25+ years, writing in Cadence and many long shuttered publications, before becoming at tabletop improviser in his 50s. He makes his own instruments out of contact mics, raw circuits, motors, amplified surfaces and more. Jesse Collins has been playing trumpet, turntables, amplified plastic glasses, the insides of speakers and other found objects all over Boston for several years. He runs his own in house label for short run tapes and cdrs, and has also run the Bruce Project, inviting contemporary musicians to intersperse themselves into a collection of several hundred 1940s radio show cassettes.
