Hellllllo, Martin here, your friendly and FEARFULLY creative member of the High Zero / Red Room collective.

I played recently in (another record store venue) Pittsburgh and this group opened for us and they were GREAT. I asked them to play at the Red Room sometime.

Here is that show!

Please come to see and hear them! They will likely be great!

How Things Are is a contemporary electroacoustic band featuring composer Brian Riordan and filmmaker David Bernabo. The duo plays acoustic objects, synthesizers, and custom electronic software that allows for real-time composition and processing. Emergent Godlike Global Brain, released on Ongoing Box in 2025, is their debut release.

The duo is a subset of the trio How Things Are Made, which was formed in 2016 with Matt Aelmore. As a trio, the band has released 86 records, produced five durational concerts events, and commissioned 50 compositions from the likes of Sarah Hennies, Helen He, and Jonghee Kang.

Opening for them will be a group of locals. I’m asking Shelly Purdy, Paul Neidhardt and Sam Pluta, but WHO KNOWS IF THEY WILL SAY YES?? That would be a really good curation!

It might just be me, with a soggy cardboard box which doesn’t make very good sounds. In which case come at like 9:05, unless that sounds like it might be good, then arrive between 8 and 8:30. But in ANY case please ARRIVE! It won’t really be me with a soggy cardboard box! Come between 8 and 8:30!

PLEASE JOIN US! SUNDAY OCTOBER 12th! Doors at 8pm, music at 8:30!
