Wayward Berlin-based Weston Olencki returns to BMORE with his amazing inventions and inventive amusements! Totally unique artist and performer! He’ll be joined by DC’s Alma Laprida – who is also debuting her recent inventions for a Baltimore audience. Come and check out her custom version of the traditional renaissance tromba marina – made of METAL, played through a custom metal speaker!!
Olencki returns to the USA to support his new record “broadsides.” The record was assembled from a long trip he made through the South in summer of 2023. During this time, I collected recordings, instruments, samples, and inspiration from down there. Over time, this collection resulted in this project – an introspective, personal reflection on memory, vernacular, and changing relationships with home.
He’ll perform parts of the record using an idiosyncratic banjo setup outfitted with solenoid motors, transducers, handmade electronics, and custom software. Excerpts from an earlier version can be found here. Streaming and downloadable links to broadsides can be found here.
