Asimina Chremos (Dance) with Seth Dillenger, John Berndt, Stewart Mostofsky, and Friends

Asimina Chremos - Movement Plus Seth Dillenger - vocalizations John Berndt - video, electronics Stewart Mostofsky - electronics & friends Asimina Chremos is one of the most amazing dancers you will ever see--and if you miss her, you are making a big mistake. This Chicago virtuoso has created a distinctive form of highly experimental, improvised dance--building on postmodern dance of the Judson Church scene and the work of mentors like Simone Forti. Specializing in collaborations with experimental musicians, she is a rare and powerful figure, combining intensive discipline with a broad sensibility for the spiritual, psychological, and neurological aspects of dance. She will perform in this concert with a variety of improvisors and solo. Seth Dellinger, 33, is a vocalist/composer in Washington D.C. In early 1999, Dellinger created "Beeayboll", a phonetic grid consisting of 88 syllables which, ever since, has been the foundation of his vocal composition and improvisation. As a soloist, Dellinger combines the sound and shape of these imaginary words with a range of expressive methods from chant and glossolalia to overtone singing and beatboxing. As a composer, one of his principal interests has been to make use of the sonic qualities of speech such as vowel and consonant sounds as structural components of equal or near-equal importance to traditionally "musical" building blocks such as pitch and rhythm. His current focus on solo vocal music is not entirely an end in itself, but also a research laboratory wherein the blueprints are being prepared for a creative choir music. Dellinger's previous musical work as a vocalist and contrabassist have included participation in various ensembles including the String Army, the Correspondence Quartet, the Middletown Creative Orchestra and the Martian Vocal Ensemble. John Berndt probably needs no introduction in Baltimore experimental circles. He is a longtime collaborator with Chremos and a fanatical free improvisor and member of Geodesic Gnome, THUS, Multiphonic Choir, and Second Nature. He is also the inventor of Relabi, a new musical form he will be using collaboration with Asimina Chremos. Stewart Mostofsky does many things, often simultaneously. One of them is that he plays electronic instruments. He is also a member of the Red Room collective and the High Zero Foundation. The performers will appear in different combinations and will be joined by other local improvisors to be announced.
