Plankton is one of the best and longest-running freely improvised ensembles from Philadelphia. David Forlano is a versatile multimedia artist/composer with a range of skills in acoustic and electronic instrumentation. His primary performance instrument is the guitar, though in Plankton he tends towards a wide range of objects and physical sound experiments. The Red Room welcomes the frenetic Philadelphia trio, Plankton whose member are Mr. Forlano on guitar, home made and souvenir world instruments, Dave Champion on trombone and electronics, David Sherick on drums. Their music is best described as "extremely strange" and "very exploratory."
Also on the bill, John Berndt's new Multiphonic Choir, a relatively recent ensemble with the unusual setup of 4 reed players (John Berndt, Calvin tullos, John Dierker, Chris Pumphrey) and amazing drummer Paul Neidhardt. The music is quasi-composed, complex, textural, and has an exalted rhythmic quality that somewhat recalls African popular musics. Deeply experimental, but also quite different from Berndt's other musics.
Don't miss what promise to be a night of inspired and e new music!
